I wanted to take a moment and review this really cool helicopter called the Syma S107. First let me tell you a little background about me.

I am into all kinds of R/C Helicopters for outdoor use during the spring and summer months. I spend a lot of time reviewing, researching, building and flying R/C Helicopters. I can assure you that it is one expensive hobby to get into for yourself. But that’s not always the biggest concern when it comes to flying these things. You see I live in an area in Texas where we usually get a lot of rain and extreme wind. One thing that hampers outdoor flying are weather conditions. So while I am waiting for the good weather I have to find something to occupy my time. That’s when I found these Syma S107 Helicopters.

Now while these helicopters are not full fledged 3D machines I can tell you that there are some advantages of having one of these Syma S107s.

Syma S107 Pros:

  • Inexpensive when compared to larger r/c helicopters
  • Charges quickly from a USB port
  • Made of metal, durable and can take some crashes without a lot of damage
  • Parts are only a few cents to a few dollars if you need them
  • Good beginner r/c helicopter
  • Can be customized with decals and parts to make a unique r/c helicopter
  • Can be flown by children and adults
  • Can be flown inside the house, apartment or office cubicle safely!
  • Did I mention they were cheap?  They are around $20 each!

Syma S107 Cons:

  • Not a lot of flying time per charge
  • No 3D abilities – can’t fly upside down
  • Can’t fly outside on a windy or rainy day
  • Cats and dogs like to swat them down when they get dive bombed

Syma S107 Price

Compared to other helicopters I am just going to have to admit that hands down this thing is inexpensive!  For about $20 you get everything you need to get started with the Syma S107 Helicopter. The remote control and all batteries are included. Even the charging cables are included.  And if you forget that at home when you go somewhere you can even charge it directly from the remote control.

Charging Time

For an electric r/c helicopter the Syma S107 is where it’s at when it comes to quick recharge times. On some of my normal outdoor helicopters I am looking at a good hour or a few to get a battery pack charged up for about 20 minutes worth of fun flights.  After that it’s back to the charger. The Syma S107 helicopter doesn’t have this problem.  It can quickly be charged in about 20-30 minutes and you are off to the races once again to have some more fun!

Durability

The Syma S107 is a durable mini helicopter.  It has a metal frame which is almost unheard of at this price.  There are other mini helicopters on the market that are all foam and plastic. They don’t even compare to this bad boy.  You definitely know you got a quality product just by holding this mini helicopter in the palm of your hand.

Parts

Unfortunately nothing is completely damage or in this case crash proof.  The Syma S107 while it is durable does have some breakable parts that are made from plastic.  But not to worry because you can get replacements parts for this bird for a few cents to a couple dollars.  Even if you damaged your remote control you can get a new one for a couple of bucks and have it shipped to you in a day or two directly from this website.

Beginners Bird

I can’t tell you how many times I crashed an expensive r/c helicopter when I was just starting out and learning how to fly them. Just the skill of hovering takes a lot of patience and time to perfect. An average r/c helicopter runs about $400 for a small one with mediocre equipment. Each time I crashed it I was looking at $100 or more to fix all the broken pieces. I wish there would have been something like the Syma S107 helicopter back in the day.  Seriously, I’ve seen children that are 6 years old learn to fly this thing in a couple of minutes with very little effort. If you grab the Syma S107G model you get a built in gyro. It costs only a couple of dollars more but it makes learning to fly so simple and effortless. The gyro helps stabilize the Syma S107 during flight and takeoffs or landings. This will also help you avoid needless crashes.

Upgrades and Mods

The Syma S107 helicopter has become quite the toy over the past few months. The folks at Syma have been releasing custom parts and mods for it. For a few bucks you can upgrade your bird and make a totally custom S107 that will impress all of your friends and make you the envy of your group.  We sell the custom mods here on our website.

Easy To Learn

As I said before the Syma S107 is very easy to learn.  It will only be a few minutes before you are taking charge of the skies in your office, apartment, house or garage.  Learning to conquer the indoor airspace doesn’t even require a special license or insurance with this helicopter.

Many Indoor Flying Areas

The Syma S107 can be flown practically anywhere indoors.  Indoor stadiums, office buildings, malls, apartments, houses and bedrooms are just a few.  I am certain that you will take this wherever you go just in case you get a chance to open up on some unfriendlies you spotted in the area.

Price Again

I know I already covered this but I have to re-emphasize it again. The price on this thing is dirt cheap for an r/c helicopter. But don’t let the price fool you into thinking that it’s a cheaply made product. I seriously don’t know how Syma can produce the S107 for around $20.  That is almost ridiculously low.  Either that or the marketing department has been selling these things on the Internet for what it costs to build them.  So you might want to hurry up and get yours before someone sees that they are priced too low.  These things could easily sell for $100 or more each!
